Day at the Stockyards!

Image Posted on Updated on

The city of Fort Worth has a long tradition with the cattle industry and is often referred to as “Where the West Begins”.

The famous Fort Worth Stockyards or “Cow Town” is like taking a step back into the Old West. The Stockyards has a whole host of western activities including the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive, cowboy hall of fame museum, Billy Bob’s – the world’s largest honky-tonk (cowboy nightclub to you and I!), steak houses, western shopping and rodeo!

We had a great day in Cow Town and our highlight was the cattle drive…

Zena purchased her first official cowgirl hat and look’s the part! She just needs the boots and a horse next to complete the look! Located only 20 minutes away from our house, we will be frequent visitors of this fabulous heritage site.

We Have a Home!

After many months living the hotel life, we finally got the keys to our Texas home!

We are settling in well and have met a number of neighbours who are really nice! We look forward to lots of happy memories here.

Day at the Zoo.

Before the schools closed  for the summer (Texas schools close for a whole 3 months!) we wanted to visit the popular Fort Worth Zoo whilst it was quiet enough to see the animals without having to dodge little ones. The Zoo  is home to around 5000 native and exotic animals, so we were not disappointed! The Zoo stretches over 65 acres and its main attractions include the Flamingo Bay, Great Barrier Reef, Eagle Canyon and the Elephant complex.

It was quite surprising to see so many animals and reptiles that we had not seen in the flesh before. Probably the most impressive was the White Tiger, Neela and the baby Elephants!

We didn’t really choose the best day to walk around the 65 acre plot as it was a scorching 35 degrees Celsius… oh well, time to top up the tan! Here are some photos of our trip taken by Chris…
